Our community

Kingsgrove High is very representative of modern Australian society. Many students and staff have non-English speaking backgrounds. This contributes to the school's richness and cultural diversity.

Teachers of English as a Second Language work with students to assist them to attain proficiency in the use of the English language. Team teaching, as well as special classes are used to enhance language development. Kingsgrove High prides itself on the way our many cultural identities provide social enrichment, greater tolerance and greater understanding.

The school recognises it is a part of the wider community. Parents, community groups and business organisations are encouraged to play an active role in the development of the school. An active School Council, supported by a generous P & C Association, plays an important role in school decision-making by being involved in developing aspects of policy and financial management.

Our strong links with the community include:

  • An active Parents & Citizens Association
  • Special meetings for parents from a variety of cultural backgrounds
  • Representation at, and support for, local and community clubs, businesses and events (e.g. Local Council & RSL)
  • Involvement of parents in school special events (e.g. facilities use, Multicultural Days & Fundraising events)
  • Regular information to parents through newsletters
  • Recognition of our indigenous population and participation in ‘Sorry' day
  • Special focus parent meetings: "Getting to know you", subject selection evenings and parent-teacher evenings
