The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in years 3, 5, 7, and 9.
NAPLAN is a skills test. It tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to be successful in the Senior Phase of Learning and beyond. Each year students in year 7 & 9 participate in tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.
The NAPLAN data gives students, parents, teachers and schools valuable information about how students are progressing. As a school, we use NAPLAN data to inform our planning and actively look to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students. The learning that our Junior Secondary students engage in builds the foundation for success in the Senior Phase of Learning and beyond.
The tests in 2020 are run on Tuesday 12 May, Wednesday 13 May and Thursday 14 May. Students will be issued with an examination timetable to follow during these 3 days. A separate information letter will be provided closer to the date detailing all information for students, parents and caregivers.
Students will be required to bring :
2B or HB pencils (or black or blue pen for the writing test)
Highlighter
An eraser
A sharpener
Scientific calculator (with no wifi function) for the Numeracy-calculator test. Calculators can be purchased at the front office.
