Peer Support 2019

The Peer Support program is a skills based and experiential learning program which is designed to enhance peer connections throughout the school.

Year 11 and Year 7 students participate in our Peer Support Program in Term 1. This program encourages and supports Year 7 students in their new environment,  welcoming them into the caring family atmosphere of which the school is proud.

Year 11 Peer Support leaders play a key role in supporting Year 7 students to fit into the Kingsgrove High School community. Our Peer Support leaders and their chosen 'buddy groups' participate in sessions, developing new skills and working well together, full of encouragement and motivation. The activities led by the leaders build positive relationships, encourage participation and assist younger students in taking personal responsibility and embracing lifelong learning. All activities are designed to encourage students to work collaboratively and support one another.

Peer support commenced in Week 2 this term. Year 7 students have started to build friendships both with each other and with their Peer Support leaders. So far the program has given Year 7 students an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school and adjust to high school life.  Year 11 Peer Support leaders have also had an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills through their mentoring of younger students.
