PDHPE Thredbo Snow Trip

Group of students at the snow

Early this term, twenty one students and three staff members embarked on an exciting three day adventure to the snow. After a 7 hour bus trip we arrived at our destination, the Snowy Mountains, tired but excited. The majority of the students had never seen snow before and with over 20cm of snow in the days leading up to our trip, the conditions at Thredbo were amazing! The students began each day with a 2 hour ski lesson with instructors, where the students learnt the skills of skiing and staying in control. Initially a few resembled baby giraffes, however, after some persistence and expert advice, the students were on their way, able to stand upright and skiing down the slopes. By the end of the two days, all the students were able to stand upright and ski down the slopes with no issues and this was a testament to their persistence, practice and ability to listen and act upon advice given to them.

This snow trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to improve their fine and gross motor skills in an unfamiliar environment as well as their proprioceptive skills, coordinating multiple body parts to be able to succeed and stay upright. The students were able to set goals and worked hard towards achieving them all in a fun and enjoyable environment.

We would like to thank the parents and families for supporting the students and giving them this priceless opportunity to attend the excursion. We would also like to thank The Shed Ski Hire and Siesta Villa Motel for looking after our school on numerous occasions and to Thredbo Sports for their knowledgeable ski instructors.
