Weird and wild work experience at Taronga Zoo

Student holding snake

Jai and Xin from Year 10 recently had a unique opportunity to participate in the school work experience at Taronga Zoo during week 6 this term.

The students had the chance to work alongside a zoo keeper and gain experience in the role  for a week. During their time , at the zoo, the students were exposed to a wide variety of duties from the very interesting to the routine, these included: cleaning the animal enclosures, preparing and distributing food for the animals, observing and recording animal behaviours, assisting the keeper with talks to the general public, interacting and holding weird and wonderful creatures.   The students had many stories to tell of holding snakes, lizards and other animals you never usually get to see up close.

If you are interested in participating work experience at Taronga Zoo , applications for next year open in term 4. Please see Ms Theodoris Careers Adviser for further information.
